Peace Poles at Bay Center
A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. Each Peace Pole bears the message May Peace Prevail On Earth in different languages on each side. Our first Peace Pole was dedicated on September 21, 2009 with the languages of English, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish and Braille. The second pole was dedicated on September 21, 2010 using Swahili, French, Vietnamese, and Chinese. In 2012 our third pole was dedicated with the Native American languages of Algonquin, Lakota ... and English again.
There are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in nearly every country in the world dedicated as monuments to peace. The Bay Center in Kilmarnock, VA, in the United States of America, on the continent of North America in the Western Hemisphere is one of the spots on this vast EARTH dedicated to praying for peace in our world.
From our Peace Pole Dedication September 21, 2012:
As we dedicate this Peace Pole, there is no doubt that all of us want to dwell in peace and security. May this symbol be a constant reminder to pray and envision a world at peace with God and with each other.
Peace begins in the heart and mind of each individual. As war begins with thoughts of war, Peace begins with thoughts of Peace. May this Peace Pole remind us to keep Peace ever-present in our thoughts.
As we learn to honor one another, our environment, plants, animals and all creation on Earth, the vision of global Peace will gradually become a natural way of life, a true culture of Peace. May each of us hold a prayer for peace in our hearts and send it around the world.
May this Peace Pole be a reminder to us to be peacemakers, to help lead the way to reconciliation, to love one another, and of the necessity to work for justice in the world, proclaiming the equal worth of all peoples and races.
And finally, may this symbol in our community help us increase our sense of knowing we are part of one great family together with an increasing sense of our common blood and destiny, that peace may come on earth and the sun may shed its light rejoicing on a holy communion of people. MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH!
